Our story
Ridgemont Legal Partners was established in 2009 by two attorneys who shared a frustration with how property law was practised at large, generalist firms. Clients with straightforward purchases were lost in bureaucratic queues, while investors with complex cross-border portfolios struggled to find counsel who understood both common-law and civil-law property systems.
We set out to build something different: a boutique practice that combines deep specialisation in real-estate law with the responsiveness and personal attention of a small firm. From our first year handling a handful of residential closings in Los Angeles, we grew steadily — expanding to serve clients in Hong Kong by 2013 and adding a dedicated commercial development team in 2016.
Today, we advise on matters ranging from first-time home purchases and condominium conversions to multi-million-dollar mixed-use developments and cross-jurisdictional investment structures. What has not changed is our founding commitment: every client deserves a lawyer who listens carefully, communicates clearly, and fights tenaciously for their property interests.

Helen co-founded the firm and leads our cross-border practice. With dual qualifications in Hong Kong and California, she advises multinational investors on acquisitions, joint ventures, and regulatory compliance. She has closed over 800 transactions in her career and is a frequent speaker at Asia-Pacific real-estate conferences.
Marcus Engel
Senior associate
Marcus specialises in commercial leasing and development law. Before joining Ridgemont, he spent seven years at a top-ten Los Angeles firm representing institutional landlords and retail tenants. His negotiation skills and deep knowledge of California zoning codes make him an invaluable asset on complex projects.
